Foton Trucks

Bringing the Chilean Foton site to the Costa Rican operation, using the migration to pay down technical debt: the custom portlets were removed and the site now rests on the CMS alone, in line with the platform's best practices.

Foton already had a site in Chile, and Andes Motor needed the equivalent for its operation in Costa Rica. The easy route would have been to clone and translate. Instead, the move was used to pay down technical debt.

The Chilean site carried custom portlets: pieces of Java code that solved things the CMS already knew how to do on its own. Each of those portlets is a module to compile, deploy, maintain and retest on every platform update. In the Costa Rican version they were removed and their role went to web content, templates and fragments.

The result is a site that rests on the CMS alone, in line with the platform's best practices. In practical terms: the local team publishes and edits without depending on a deployment, and future Liferay updates stop being a risk, because there's no custom code to break.

The catalogue is segmented by load segment (light, semi-light, medium, heavy, buses and electric) with its quote tool and the service network, which in commercial vehicles is a buying criterion in itself.
